Dolgoch
The Elenydd is an area in the southern Cambrian Mountains of mid-Wales, between Llanwrtyd Wells and Tregaron. It is a wild and beautiful place, with silence broken only by a gurgling stream, the bleating of sheep or the call of a bird. It is a wonderful area for outdoor activities like walking, cycling and horseriding, an ideal place to escape from the pressures of the modern world.
Simple youth hostels have provided accommodation here for many years and have always been popular with walkers and cyclists. They are in isolated and stunning locations and have been run by volunteer wardens for many years.
The Youth Hostels Association closed the last three of these hostels in 2006, but we have managed to save two of them – Ty’n Cornel and Dolgoch. They are both converted farmhouses in the hills and are full of character.

From Ramblers’ Association Group News
In order to raise the profile of the Ramblers and reach out to new audiences , we have recently embarked on a new partnership with the outdoor retailer “Cotswold Outdoor”
The aim of the partnership is to increase take up of Ramblers membership through various promotions in Cotswold stores (e.g. sale of Ramblers membership, Walk magazine and Walk Britain) and through other Cotswold communications, such as brochures, catalogues, their website and e-newsletters
The partnership will launch in March 2009 and will run for 5 years with a review after 2 years.
The good news is that all Ramblers members will get a one off 20% discount voucher valid for 3 months, after members will be offered a 10% on going discount.
The only shop in Powys is at Brecon, other shops in Wales are located in Cardiff and Betws-y-Coed
Ramblers Cymru are conducting a survey on the volunteering aspects of Ramblers’ work.
Your contribution would be greatly appreciated. We want to get the widest possible response and would appreciate you encouraging other members of Ramblers Cymru to take part. Your response will be invaluable in helping us to understand more about volunteering within the organisation and help us to improve it. All the data we collect is stored on a secure server and is covered by our Privacy Policy.

A successful AGM was held on the 18th January at the Offa’s Dyke Centre, Knighton.
The day began with 10 or so members joining for a 5-6 mile walk the Teme Valley before climbing up to Offa’s Dyke Path above Skyborry Green. From here we had glorious views of the Mid Wales Hills and Knucklas viaduct, while we took a well earned coffee break. We returned walking high above the valley before descending back to Knighton via Kinsley Wood. Our Thanks to Laura Jones for leading us on such a marvellous walk.
The minutes of the AGM can be found in the download section, see link on left.
Coastal local authorities in Wales are now developing proposals to extend access along the Welsh coast. In Ceredigion proposals will seek to build on the access opportunities developed between Cardigan and Ynyslas through the Ceredigion Coast Path project (Objective 1).
A consultation report sets out ideas for the development of a of a high quality public footpath along the Dyfi estuary between Borth and the County boundary (forming part of the all-Wales Coast Path). It highlights the opportunities and potential for walking along the Dyfi Valley, taking account of agricultural and wildlife conservation interests. The report also highlights the economic benefits that such a route would bring as well as factors that need to be resolved in the implementation of this section of the all-Wales coastal route.
Ceridigion County Council were looking for views and suggestions, however, the date for this is well past.
The report can be found here
