Circular Walk from Erwood Craft Centre

Crickadarn Church

Crickadarn Church

On 24th March 2018, nine of us enjoyed a good walk from the craft centre up and down hills, taking in Crickadarn and Llanstephan churches on the way.  A somewhat dull day but at least it didn’t rain.  The mud was everywhere which made it quite hard going at times, and very slippery in places.

After crossing the Cletwr Brook we made our way to Crickadarn Church  for elevenses.  One of our party found the key to the church hidden under a stone, so we were able to have a look inside.

We then descended down to the River Wye where we crossed by means of the lovely Llanstephan suspension bridge. The Welsh daffodils at Llanstephan House were just coming out as were the celendines. Spring is trying to assert itself! We had a tricky stream crossing over one of the tributaries of the Bachawy River, but we all made it without mishap.  We then crossed over the Bachawy on a bridge that had been recently repaired and had non-slip covering put on it.  The River itself was in full spate and all the waterfalls were bubbling and gurgling – quite a noise!

Finally we skirted round Twyn y Garth hill before dropping steeply down and onto a track which took us virtually all the way back to the cars.
