What a wind-up

Below is the text of a letter published in the Daily Mail by David Bellamy the Powys Area Ramblers President. This letter was sent as a personal message and does not necessarily represent the views of the Ramblers

IT WAS heartening finally to see the Welsh Assembly in Cardiff being told that the masses of windfarms and their associated pylons will not be tolerated in Mid Wales. More than 1,500 protesters from Wales and England the largest group ever seen at the Assembly building made it clear that it is not acceptable to destroy the beautiful Powys countryside, along with its economy, which relies so heavily on tourism, for such a pathetically inefficient form of energy.

Mighty Myfanwy from Llanfair Caerelnion, a Welsh Joan of Arc with punch and humour, left the Assembly in no doubt that this was only the beginning. She was followed by that
formidable organisation that strikes terror into the heart of government, the WI, which drove home the local opposition to the Assembly’s plans. The Labour leader refused to
face such powerful opposition, so sent out a lass who had been an Assembly member for only two weeks.

How much longer do we have to put up with this undemocratic puppet government who think anywhere beyond the boundaries of Cardiff is fair game for exploitation?

DAVID BELLAMY
Aberedw, Powys.
